#26 Escapists - Faraday Cage

Escapists' new single, 'Faraday Cage' will be out 24.11.14. This is their first hint at there being a second album in the pipeline.

Announced at the beginning of this month, 'Faraday Cage' is just a fantastic song. The guitar riffs are almost robotic in their synth-like relentlessness, while the drum beats are danceable and lead singer Simon Glancy's vocals hypnotise. It's a bittersweet blend of sincere emotion and indie club banger. From first listen it was a sure SOTW for us at Raw Meat towers.

Perhaps unusually, Escapists also posted a cover of Talking Heads' 'This Must Be The Place' to mark the announcement of their own single. Although they aren't two bands I would classify as similar, the cover suits them really well; it highlights the two groups' dance influences and gives Escapists a chance to get all new wave. Again, it's Glancy's vocals that carry the song away from predictable cover-fodder, while the Talking Heads' building blocks also give their bassist a well-deserved chance to shine.
