#38 Kali Uchis - Lottery

The Columbian, Canadian-based Kali Uchis has already gathered quite a lot of well-deserved attention, but her latest track 'Lottery' has completely blown us away.

She has an incredibly clear vision of her aesthetic - visually and musically - and nothing short of a heavenly command over her vocals.

As you hit play on 'Lottery', innocent chimes lead you into a classic hip hop beat that then falls back into a luscious nineties chill-out puddle. There's elements of TLC, Kelis, Nelly Furtado, and something wonderfully unique. Uchis' lyrics are understated, simple and genuinely brilliant. She's equal parts addictive R&B and intelligent pop; sunshine and pastel colours seep out of every effortless note.

When (not if) you go and listen to every other track she's made available you'll find the same natural clarity and directness in her music as she moves through different styles. It's aural magnetism. The music of Kali Uchis spans decades and genres with a sensual ease that has enriched our collective minds.
