#48 Raketkanon - Florent

'Florent' is the debut UK single from Belgian rock band, Raketkanon.

'Florent' is out 30/03/15 on Jazz Life Records, and the album it comes from, RKTKN#2 is a gross (meaning both huge and disgusting), shocking creature.

Raketkanon means "rocketcannon" in Dutch, just so you know. And the main reason we felt we had to feature 'Florent' as the SOTW is because it's not often you're going to hear something like it. The pace is straight from Led Zeppelin, with wailing vocals and threatening changes in energy - never relaxed, but looming. Pieter-Paul Devos' vocals are just incredible, backed by doubled up synth/ guitar riffs that move in unison with the unsettlingly powerful drums. Beyond the realms of normality, Raketkanon are genuinely exciting to listen to, and apparently their live shows are no different.

On a side note, the video for 'Florent' is wonderful, and according to the band was inspired by watching Bay City Rollers and Cliff Richard videos; "Psychotically happy smiles and self-enjoying dance moves".

‘Florent’ is out now on limited 7" white vinyl through Blood Red Shoes’ Jazz Life Records. Their new album RKTKN#2 is out via KKK Records 13.04.15, distributed by Republic of Music/ Universal.
