introducing:

Bo Keeney

Californian multi-instrumentalist Bo Keeney released his new EP, 7 Eleven, (recorded in London) via Berlin blueprint Nipple Clips, 22.09.14.

Keeney uses unexpected samples over drum n bass mixed with funky rhythms. There's something very different about his sound, and we love it.

Raw Meat: Tell us about your local music scene; what’s your favourite local venue, are there any record labels or stores that we should look up, what’s the scene like where you're from?
Bo Keeney: At the moment I'm living between Bristol and London - I'll settle back into London properly in November. I've just come back from a few months in Berlin, and my neighbourhood club there was Sisyphos, where the resident artist was Fidelity Kastrow, who is definitely worth looking up. I'd also look up Electro Don, who DJs regularly around east Berlin. I lived in lower Clapton for 2013/14 and had St John's, a church/ electronic music venue, on my doorstep. Gold Panda, Jacques Greene, Koreless and others have been playing there recently. But none of their audiences seem to dance.
I felt most at home in Brixton, especially at Jamm, and at Village Underground. The quality of the sound there is incredible. XOYO and Fire in Vauxhall are decent too. But my favorite venues are the ones where people seem genuinely attracted to the music, not clubs as meat-markets or places to be seen. A lot of great artists I know live locally, but they usually stay within their own circles. Mostly I connect with artists I meet through other musicians and producers, gigging, and platforms like Soundcloud, as opposed to an existing scene that's based out of one particular venue or circuit.

Name one track or band that you love from the past.
Issac Hayes' version of 'Walk On By', especially the ending.

Name one track or band that you're loving right now.
I'm putting out a 35-minute new music mix this week. I toiled over it for days. I included all of my favourite tracks of 2014 in the mix. These four close it:
French Fries - 'Shift'
Nicolas Malinowsky - 'Crash'
Sisyphus - 'Alcohol'
Josef Salvat - 'Every Night'

Name a track or band that you think we should be listening out for in the future.
Just Chris, the Slow Revolt, B O M B S.

What are you up to now?
In a pub in Hampstead, working on remixes.

What can we expect from you next?
Two more near-completed EPs from Berlin. They should be released between now and early 2015.
