Grim Fiction Recommends

Our lovely hunks of Fresh Flesh have recommended some pretty amazing music, people and places for you lot. Here’s another round up of who the bands you love… love.

Back when we first met Grim Fiction, they were called Hyena and tore it up on tracks like 'Mental Home'. Spoiler alert: They're still tearing it up. Let's see what they told us was worth its weight in toffee back in 2014.

Local scene? They mentioned "A cool label called Distorted Tapes, they put out God Damn's early stuff and some other wicked records!" They do things like put on all-dayers for charity and sell awesome music. Well worth checking out.

For their past track they chose 'The Rose' by The Damned. A punk classic. Its thunderous drums, urgent vocals and early-punk guitar sounds are everything you'd want from a snotty slice of seventies Britain.

Rather sheepishly, Hyena/ Grim Fiction admitted that after seeing Hozier perform on Later... With Jools Holland, they were hooked. "...the guitars were much louder and dirtier which made it sound like something from Humbug. The lyrics are ace too."

The band they wanted us all to look out for in the future was Bad Grammar, whose EP You're Welcome we absolutely love. It's a little old now, but the band seem to be doing amazing things releasing compilations to help fund-raise for a friend and fellow musician's cancer treatment. Read more here, grab the compilation here.

Hear Grim Fiction's latest recording below. It's a fantastic, rip-roaring track (and this is just the B-side). They've been gigging in the UK a fair bit and I've got an inkling they'll be releasing some newer material in the new year.

Way back in 2015 we asked Plastic Mermaids the only questions that matter.

There's more than a little nostalgia in the power-psych of Fez. We asked them the all important questions just in time for the release of their latest single.

Krush Puppies' latest medieval-tinged murder ballad is a grubby, fuzzy attention-grabber.
