imp are the sort of band you could listen to whilst on holiday in Hawaii, sunbathing by the beach with a tequila sunrise in your hand. Although this characteristic might be slightly annoying when stuck with the rubbish weather in England – you can’t deny the astounding music coming from this Leeds 5-piece.
Raw Meat: Tell us about your local music scene. What’s your favourite local venue, are there any record labels or stores that we should look up, what’s the scene like where you’re from?
imp: Originally we’re from a small village outside Wakefield, Smeaton Village Empire (an affectionate name given by the band), not much of a scene, but great scenery. There’s a great shop there that sells boiled sweets and glass eyes from the same jar, I [Chris] almost died choking on an eyeball when I was younger. We had a stint in Wakefield; we were introduced to the Philophobia Music A&R guy who is a very nice chap, he also happens to be the head of Philophobia Music (an independent record label based in Wakefield) and is the only employee – at the time of writing this. Currently we’re based in Leeds. The Brudenell Social Club is probably one of the best venues in the UK, but there’s also Baby Jupiter and Belgrave Music Hall which are loads of fun to play.

What are you up to now?
Trying to find our drummer, Aiden. He owes us 700 quid, 100 euros, 3000 cigarettes, 16 gallons of beer, 12 hot meals and other miscellaneous items.
What can we expect from you next?
We’re touring with Cowtown in July, assuming we find Aiden. Come and say ‘hi’ and tell us how well we did with these questions!
