Beat Connection 2018

Hold the phone, Did someone say a killer line-up at one of Reading’s most prized venues? No. No-one did. But that is what's happening next weekend.

Promoters of the award winning Are You Listening? festival are set to throw a brand new all-dayer to spice up the cold November evenings. With a bill like this (and catering to boot), it would be a travesty to miss this party wrapping up another great year in music.

Co-headlining is the impeccable Matt Maltese. Originally from Reading himself, Maltese released his mellow and melancholic debut album Bad Contestant earlier in the year, and has subsequently made a name for himself as one of the fastest rising talents of 2018. Make sure to catch his headline set of poignant, albeit affable material. He won’t be playing intimate venues like this for much longer.

Sharing the top spot with Maltese is alternative talent BC Camplight, following a sold-out UK tour and currently featuring heavily on the BBC 6 Music playlist.

Quirky post-punks Mush will also be making the journey from Leeds to perform. With a string of sharp singles to their name, the latest being the incisively pacy ‘Gig Economy’, Mush are sure to give yet another stunning show following their spot on the aforementioned Are You Listening? line-up earlier this year.

Heavy Pop Promotions are also keen to take this opportunity to showcase a sample of Reading’s fantastic local acts. Valeras guitarist KT King is set to perform a selection of her brilliantly smooth and lyrically observational solo material; from this, to indie-pop fireworks Saltwater Sun, to sublime shoegazers Head Drop, Reading town is brimming with fresh excellence, and it’s a pleasure to see these acts recognised.

See you there.

NO ONE CARES WHAT YOU THINK, BUT LEAVE A COMMENT ANYWAY

Primavera 2022, somewhat of a bumper year. A double rollover. Plus the return to the midweek city-based shows, means things are bigger and better than ever.

A double rollover means the biggest festival to date, with not one weekend, not two weekends, but an additional midweek lineup to boot.

Last week already seems like a different age, full of carefree optimism.
